History:
The Lower Columbia Preservation Society was established in the spring of 1998
when the City of Astoria's Historic Landmarks Commission hosted an open meeting
for historic home owners and interested parties to discuss their homes and ongoing
projects as one of a number of activities in National Historic Preservation
Week. Thirty people celebrated their restoration projects, asked questions about
solutions to perplexing problems, and shared sources of preservation information
and materials. Six volunteers agreed to organize a permanent group to network
information, share resources, educate members and the community at large, and
advocate for preservation. Initially, the City of Astoria provided meeting space
and postage.
